Budget generous for southern queensland
MEMBER for Burleigh, Christine Smith, has outlined spending allocations from the Queensland Budget for her electorate.
She said Treasurer Andrew Fraser had acknowledged the southern Gold Coast, with more than $4 million for the Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative, including Queensland's Green Army.
“This will create 530 jobs for young people and those disadvantaged in the labour market,” Mrs Smith said.
“There is also an allocation of $29,000 to complete the refurbishment of the Burleigh Heads Ambulance Station.
“The Budget also allocates millions of dollars for our area's roads and schools, for environmental measures, community groups, health and housing.”
Other initiatives and projects from the Budget for the Burleigh electorate included:
$6 million for a fully operational twin-engine helicopter for Surf Life Saving Queensland, based on the Gold Coast;
$13.2 million for the Transit Oriented Development project in parallel with the new Varsity Lakes rail station;
$6.25 million for extra Home and Community Care services for people with a disability;
