Builders to stay busy over Christmas, shows report

RESIDENTIAL building approvals are on the rise in Queensland, according to the latest figures from Master Builders.

Building approvals for the month of October show a total of 3,679 dwellings were approved in Queensland, well-above the 10 year average of 3,033 units, seasonally adjusted.

Year-on-year approvals for units are now up 45% and detached houses are up 5.8% seasonally adjusted.

Master Builders Manager - Policy and Economics, Dyan Johnson, said while national commentators talk of having reached the "peak," in Queensland there is clearly still more room for growth.

"South-East Queensland is leading the way as conditions in the housing sector continue with strong and positive results," Ms Johnson said.

"In particular, these results are buoyed by units which continue to push up the figures."
