Bureau says cyclone unlikely

The Bureau of Meteorology believes the chance of low pressure system off Hervey Bay developing into a cyclone was highly unlikely.

In a report issued this morning at 3am, the bureau predicted that the chance of the system, which sat 90km east of Hervey Bay, being upgraded to a cyclone was "low".

Under the BoM guidelines low means 5% to 20% chance, and very low is less than 5%.

The report revealed that the possibility of a cyclone developing today was low and Wednesday and Thursday "very low".

The system off Hervey Bay was moving north-east at 9kph and is predicted to continue moving north to north-easterly throughout the morning and would adopt a northerly track in the afternoon.
