Burgess fit for duty after injury scare

RABBITOHS lock Sam Burgess feared he had broken his collarbone during his 30-14 side’s loss to the Tigers last weekend.

But the tough Englishman has bounced back quickly from what initially looked a serious injury to be right to face Parramatta at ANZ Stadium on Friday night.

Burgess said his arm “went dead straight away ... so I thought there was something wrong”.

“There’s no structural damage, which we were worried about initially, so I should be fine for this weekend,” he said.

“I did actually think I’d broken my collarbone initially. I’ve had two reconstructions on this right shoulder before, so probably just some old scarring there. But it’s fine.”

Souths, the 2014 champions, are languishing in 12th place on the NRL ladder.

“We’ve got to hold the ball better and defend a bit smarter,” Burgess said.
