Burlesque in vogue for ladies
THE theatrical beauty of burlesque has been revived.
Burlesque Fever has arrived at the Coolangatta Hotel where ladies can learn the flamboyant and sexy dance art in the venue’s brand new Infusion Vodka Lounge.
The classes are part of the Coolangatta Hotel’s ladies night and will be presided over by Burlesque Dolls performer and Miss Burlesque Australia-Queensland finalist Miss Dolly Monroe.
During the classes Miss Dolly will teach a range of traditional, neo- and unique-burlesque routines using both classic and new burlesque music complete with props including feather boas, dancing canes and hats.
“The ladies of the Southern Gold Coast want something different and unique on Ladies Night.
“We wanted to offer something that wasn’t happening anywhere else on the coast,” Coolangatta Hotel marketing manager Vanessa Fairweather said.
“Ladies can come to the Coolangatta Hotel, and after two hours go home with a burlesque routine under their belt.”
The Burlesque classes will run from 7pm through to 9pm DST.
Tickets are $20, which includes a dance lesson, organic breads and dips and concludes with a glass of champagne.
Burlesque is a literary, dramatic or musical work which derives from the Italian word burlesque meaning a joke, ridicule or mockery.
The performance style recently received a revival in Hollywood with the Golden Globe award-winning musical film Burlesque showing on the silver screen and starring singers Cher and Christina Aguilera.
