Burlinson takes on Sinatra
FRANK Sinatra's work will be honoured in Tweed Heads next month, 100 years since his birth.
Sinatra at the Sands, performed by popular Australian singer/actor Tom Burlinson, will take the audience on a trip down memory lane to explore the singer's great hits.
Burlinson said he had always been a big Sinatra fan, having grown up with his songs playing in their family home.
"When I was very, very young my parents had a Frank Sinatra album," he said.
"It was an absolutely wonderful album.
"There was something about Sinatra that captivated me when I was very young."
After some time, Burlinson found he had a similar vocal tone to Sinatra, and the rest is history.
For this show Burlinson will bring his All Star Big Band with him which he said was a wonderful experience.
He said Twin Towns offered the right kind of space to use more musicians.
"That's the right kind of room and they have really great sound there," Burlinson said.
"I've been there 2-3 times over the years and I'm really happy to be going back."
Burlinson said it was a bit of a holiday for him, as his family had a holiday house at Burleigh Heads.
While he takes pride in performing a top-notch tribute show, Burlinson said he had never tried to be Sinatra.
"I don't pretend to be Sinatra," he said.
"I'm not imitating him."
Burlinson said Sinatra's widespread influence upon the likes of Michael Buble would make the show appeal to all ages.
Supported by his big band, Burlinson will perform the big hits of Sinatra's prime, including Come Fly with Me, I've Got You Under My Skin, Fly Me to the Moon, and more.
"I'm really excited about this one," he said.
"It's sort of the same, but different."
