Burns teen in critical condition

A TUMBULGUM teenager is in a critical condition after suffering burns to more than half his body on the weekend.

Mikey Rossall, 19, remains in an induced coma in the Royal Brisbane Hospital after he fell into a small cane fire at Cudgen on Saturday night.

It is believed Mr Rossall attempted to jump the 1m wide flames and hit a retaining wall on the other side, causing him to fall onto the coals.

Mr Rossall’s friends stayed with him for 30 minutes while the ambulance arrived, girlfriend Kyndall Aistrope said.

"All our friends put him in the shower and he was so calm," she said. "He went into shock just before the ambulance got there."

Mr Rossall was taken to The Tweed Hospital before being placed in a coma and transported to Brisbane.

Doctors are hoping to wake Mr Rossall up tomorrow but he faces a long journey ahead in the burn unit.
