Burst water pipe floods two stores
A BURST water pipe flooded two stores in a Banora Point shopping centre yesterday morning.
About 9am (NSW) a pipe burst in the BWS liquor store at Banora Central on Fraser Dr causing major flood damage and also flooding neighbouring store Supa News.
Tweed Heads and Banora Point firefighters shut off the water and electricity to the centre before flushing the water out of both stores.
Power and water was returned to the centre about 10.30am (NSW).
Supa News owners Tammy and Brent Washington attempted to mop the water out of their shop but said they have lost stock to water damage as well as an entire day's trade.
"There's lots of damage, as well as the loss of trade but the fire brigade has been absolutely brilliant," Ms Washington said.
"They got in and got as much water out to minimise the loss. We were losing the battle with our little mops."
Mr Washington said next week would mark their first year anniversary as owners of the business.
"It's not the best anniversary but I guess if you don't laugh you'll cry," he said.
Tweed Heads Fire Station senior firefighter Mark Donovan said the pipe had been replaced by plumbers and was now safe.
