Business and family the perfect marriage

OWNER and operator of Affordable Wedding and Event Hire, Natasha Shearer-Lambert, offers a wide range of quality wedding styling items and caters for all of the Northern Rivers, from Grafton to the Gold Coast. Natasha has operated the business for five years and has styled many events such as the Telstra and Tweed Business Awards. She has been a finalist in the Business Excellence Awards Tweed Shire (BEATS) for three years running.

What inspired you to open your own business?

I was pregnant with my third child and was working shift work and needed to do something from home. I went to my sister’s wedding and realised there was no market that catered for wedding styling items, so I started the business from scratch and built it up.

What do you most enjoy about operating your own business?

I like the work and personal life balance and I’m able to work my schedule around family, which is perfect. I love how every wedding is different and how brides bring their ideas and we can recreate them.

What’s the biggest advantage in operating a business in the Tweed?

Being central to the Gold Coast, Ballina and the Northern Rivers. There is the ocean surroundings which bring customers and there’s also the more vintage, rustic settings that are popular. A lot of bookings come from word-of-mouth too.

What’s the biggest challenge in operating a business in the Tweed?

Unfortunately, we can’t do every wedding and sadly have to turn couples away if they haven’t booked early.

Future plans for the business?

The business is at the point where I’m really happy with it. I’d like to continue building business to complement my current client base. Visit: affordableweddingand eventhire.com.
