Cabarita Beach businesses hit hard by storm and rainfall

MOTORISTS got a shock on Tuesday when they reached Cudgen on the Tweed Coast Road.

"I've never been through a flood before," said Anna Coles of Kingscliff.

"I wasn't prepared to go through it.

"My car is too small and it's not worth the risk," she said.

Business owners at Cabarita Beach suffered through the storm and came back on Tuesday to find flooded kitchens and office floors.

The Blue Rose Cafe lost its iconic blue sail shade.

"It just took off," said owner Bruce Miller.

"The pillar lifted, taking the tiles with it.

"The kitchen was flooded.

"But what can you do?

"That's life."

Towels were hanging outside shops as staff tried to soak up the water.

The smell was over-powering.

Further up the road, Crescent Road at Cudgen was closed off and still was on Wednesday.

Access to the Kingscliff Waste Water Treatment Plant is cut off, as well as the Mechanical and Electrical Facility for Tweed Shire Council.
