Test for budding photographers
CABARITA’S young community members will show their skills on Friday when they exhibit their photography works at an exhibition.
ABC Open has combined with Cabarita Youth Services to showcase local talent and connect regional communities through sharing stories via photography and film.
Young people from the area have thought hard about the concepts that include Portrait of a Stranger and A Small Window to come up with some stunning and original works.
Lauren Page, a 16-year-old Kingscliff High School student has entered her works in the showcase and says she is thrilled to have an opportunity to put her ideas into practice.
“We had to pick someone at random to interview and photograph,” she said.
“It was very exciting and challenging, but I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
“I have a dream of becoming a journalist and the showcase has given me the opportunity to test the water and get some exposure.”
ABC Open producer on the Gold Coast Solua Middleton worked with the youth to produce the exhibition.
She said she enjoyed working with the Cabarita Youth Service and the kids on the Portrait of a Stranger project.
“Even though the kids were asked to approach someone they didn’t know for the interview and photo, they were all naturals,” Ms Middleton said.
The exhibition is at the old post office building, 45 Tweed Coast Rd, Cabarita, Friday at 6pm.
