Cake steals show at Casuarina store opening
'COLES couple' Llorinda McLeod and Steve Meli's sweet cake almost stole the show at celebrations to mark the new Casuarina store opening today.
The happy couple of 4 years, who met while working together at the Banora Point Village Coles outlet, helped to launch the chain's new store on the corner of Grand Pde and Casuarina Way.
Ms Mcleod is a dry goods manager at Banora Point, while Mr Meli was store manager at Banora Point and Tweed Heads South for 7 years, before taking up his post as store manager at Casuarina.
The Banora Point couple said theirs was not the only romance to have blossomed at Coles.
"Yes, there's heaps of us, we're just another Coles couple," Ms McLeod said.
Their cake was produced by Ms McLeod's Facebook-based company Llorinda's Luscious Cakes, which flourished from what was merely a baking hobby, and now sees her catering for Christenings, dirty 30s and weddings, all in her time off.
"At Coles every opening has a cake," Mr Meli said.
"Hurstville's shop next to the train station (in Sydney) got a train cake, so Llorinda themed ours on fresh food."
The long-awaited store will be welcomed by Casuarina residents, who have had to travel to Kingscliff or Cabarita to do their shopping until now.
An additional 12 specialty stores will also open at the complex, including a bottle store, doctor's surgery, chemist, travel agent, vet and various food outlets.
Mr Meli said of 70 team members at Casuarina, 50 were from Kingscliff and Cabarita.
CORRECTION: The original article incorrectly stated the couple were together for 14 years and Mr Meli worked at Coles for 17, and has now been amended to reflect the accurate dates.
