Calls for Knox Park upgrade

THE playground in Knox Park in Murwillumbah needs an urgent upgrade, according to residents.

Tweed councillors received a petition with 500 signatures calling for an upgrade of the playground.

Carmen Stewart delivered the petition to the councillors at Thursday's community access meeting.

"The maintenance of the park is wonderful but the playground is terrible," Ms Stewart said. "It's a design issue."

"There in no shade at all and the drainage is terrible.

"I believe there is a no shade cloth policy in the shire because of vandalism but policies can be revisited."

Ms Stewart said the community would prefer the playground be redeveloped rather than revisiting a master plan for the whole park if it would speed up the process.

"There is a lot of interest from the community. But we don't want it part of a capital works program that is five years out," she said.
