Wave if you can see this ... Optus outage hits internet

INTERNET users in around the Brisbane area, including the Sunshine and Gold Coasts, have been hit with repeated crashes today as the Optus Network  fell in a cyber hole.

The company website isn't giving any indication of what is going on but reports from IT departments are saying there has been an Optus outage in the Brisbane area.

Optus has confirmed the outage and staff are working to restore services.

"IT Services will make all efforts to expedite the restoration and communicate the progress of the outage," an Optus statement read.

Twitter has been swamped with comments, including suggestions Brisbane Airport had been badly affected by the outage.

A later tweet denied that was the case.
