Car collides with bus, hits tree and just misses river
A 19-YEAR-man was trapped for almost an hour in a vehicle that was close to slipping into the Tweed River this morning.
Murwillumbah Police senior constable Jason McGinley said two people were in the vehicle when it lost control and collided with a mini-bus on the Tweed Valley Way.
The car then hit a tree on the bank of the Tweed River south of Tumbulgum.
Tweed District Rescue's Mal Pearse said the unit was called about 8:45am and the trapped man was removed from the wreck at 9:30am.
"It (the Mazda 626) was hanging over the bank," Mr Pearse said.
Mr Pearse said with slippery conditions the rescue works were required to dig foot holds to access the vehicle and a line was connected to a tow truck to stop the car from rolling into the water.
A NSW Ambulance spokesperson said the 19-year-old man was complaining of pelvis and neck pain.
The spokesperson said he was transported to the Tweed Hospital in a serious condition.
No one was injured in the mini bus.
NSW Ambulance, SES, NSW Rural Fire Service, police and Tweed District Rescue attended the scene.
