AT THE Brassall Village aged care centre, residents know Sherrie Gossow as 'Sherrie the Bodybuilder'.

The nickname is well deserved.

When Ms Gossow is not working as an assistant nurse at the facility, she's working on her muscular physique.

For the past five years, the 27-year-old has been devoted to world of competitive bodybuilding.

It's a life of discipline, hard work and sacrifice but Ms Gossow said she wouldn't have it other way.

"I generally wake up at 4am to do cardio training before I go to work," she said.

"After work, I will hit the gym followed by another round of cardio."

"It's a tough lifestyle adjustment initially, but after a while it just becomes habit," she said.

As well as regular exercise, Ms Gossow's training also requires her to follow a strict dietary regime.

"The right diet is at least 70% of the battle," she said.

"I now eat seven meals a day - once every two and a half hours - made up of organic meats and fresh vegetables.

"Sometimes I set an alarm so that I can wake up late at night, just to eat."

Her dedication has paid off though - last Sunday the Brassall resident was crowned Overall Figure Champion at the National Amateur Body Builders Association (NABBA) state championships.

The win will now see Ms Gossow represent Queensland in the Australian Nationals in Newcastle this Sunday.

"The women who compete have such beautiful physiques," she said. "It can be intimidating going up against women with such well-sculpted bodies.

"I didn't really expect to win the state championships, when they called my name I was shocked."

In her bodybuilding career, Ms Gossow has also won the NABBA/WFF Southern Hemisphere Championships in the Novice division.
