Ipswich tradie one of the hottest

CHARMING his way into the hearts of women across the state, Ipswich carpenter Michael Stephenson has been named runner up in the search for Queensland’s hottest tradie.

One hundred and fifty tradesmen from across the state entered RSVP’s annual search for Australia’s Hottest Tradie, with the state finals held at the Pig ’n’ Whistle in Brisbane recently.

During the hotly contested final, contestants underwent a photo shoot, media interviews and strutted their stuff in front of a live audience.

While he lost out on the title to Daisy Hill electrician Stuart Cali, he said it had been a cool experience.

“I entered as a bit of a laugh and got further than I thought I would,” Mr Stephenson said.

“Even though I didn’t end up winning it was just awesome and so much fun.”

The 27-year-old said while he wasn’t sure what his duties would be, organisers had asked him to attend the grand final in Sydney on April 13.

“I must have impressed them on the night,” Mr Stephenson said.

He said he had been proud to be an unofficial Ipswich ambassador and represent his home town.

“I think I did a good job,” Mr Stephenson said.

“People have said I have the potential to run for council.

“I love the city. I think it is a good place to live.”

The Bundamba resident said his ‘fame’ had also helped him win him some Ipswich female fans.

But he said he was happy to just settle back into his normal duties as co-director of Ipswich-based Tredmac Building and Carpentry Services.

The competition, now in its third year, scours the country to uncover the hottest tradesmen Australia has to offer.

Nationally, more than 730 tradies entered this year’s competition and more than 300,000 votes were cast by the public.
