Cash incentive for business move

TWEED Shire councillors have welcomed a scheme that will pay Sydneysiders $7000 to move here, but are calling on the NSW Government to give away even more money to help businesses relocate.

The councillors have called on the government to extend the scheme by providing $15,000 to encourage businesses to move or expand operations to the Tweed from Sydney or other states.

They voted six to one this week to put the request to the government, with only Greens councillor Katie Milne opposed.

Cr Dot Holdom described the proposal as “the missing link” in the new Coalition government's plan, announced earlier this month, to provide $7000 for people living in Sydney, Wollongong and Newcastle to move to regional areas.

Staff said they were aware of a computer company with offices in Sydney, Melbourne and Newcastle which was considering opening an office in Brisbane.

Discussions had been held to encourage them to consider the Tweed.
