PASSENGERS on a cruise ship which has docked in Melbourne this morning have been hit with an aggressive outbreak of gastro, according to reports.

Celebrity Solstice which carries nearly 3000 passengers is the leading ship of the Solstice-class of cruise ships and has reportedly had an outbreak of norovirus

This type of virus causes gastro, such as vomiting and diarrhoea and spreads through direct person-to-person contact, indirectly through ingestion of contaminated food or water.

Celebrity Solstice, operated by Celebrity Cruises, is Australia and New Zealand's highest rated cruise ship, according to their website.
