Celtic tunes on show tonight

THE Celtic tenors have never had a full tour in Australia.

On Friday night, the Irish vocal trio will kick off their first show supporting Celtic Woman on their Australian tour.

One third of the group, James Nelson, said he was looking forward to it.

“We hope we can give people the opportunity the know us and if they like us we can come back and do our own shows,” Nelson said.

Coming from headline tours in the US, Nelson said it would be a different experience to perform in Australia.

“It’s kind of strange for us because while we’re not A-list celebrities, we are known quite a bit in America,” he said.

“We’re a completely unknown entity in Australia so it’s kind of nice for us to come here.”

On this tour, they’ll perform songs from their latest album, Timeless, the group’s 12th offering.

He said it drew from a range of genres from the 80s and 90s, including some classical, Celtic, Irish, Scottish and a capella.

“It’s quite difficult to label us,” he said.

“We just do songs that we like and hopefully the audience will like.”

The Celtic Tenors will support Celtic Woman at Gold Coast Convention Centre on September 11.
