Centaur's Chess Club

12 fiercely competitive, analytical thinkers from Centaur primary school recently took part in an interschool chess tournament held at Carrara Basketball Stadium where over 1000 students congregated to contest with determined focus.
Teacher Adrian Hession discovered Centaur’s 12 and began the school’s first chess club, meeting every Thursday to challenge each other.
Previously the group travelled to Caningeraba state school at Burleigh to compete against 322 other students in 7 rounds of competitive chess.
Taking this experience with them the competitors managed to maintain their focus for the entire day, playing brilliantly and proudly accepting 2nd place in their rounds.
With the support of the community and the precise skill of the school’s GA, Peter Hall, Centaur primary now has a giant chess and checker board that sits in the shade of the school’s front grounds. Students can further their expertise during breaks or have a fun, friendly game that challenges their brains in skilled moves across the board.
