Tweed dancers kept on their toes

TWEED dancers Claire Hamilton and Aaron Shaw are pointeing towards success after being accepted into prestigious German ballet schools.

The Fiona Munroe Ballet and Dance Studio students are now taking the next step towards forging international dance careers.

Miss Hamilton has just danced the lead in The Northern Rivers Youth Ballet Company’s productions of Peter & the Wolf and Paquita and will take up a place with Munich Ballet School in September.

The 17-year-old said she was looking forward to the adventure.

“I’m excited about the in-depth training and the opportunity.

"When I finish studying I’d love to get into a company,” Miss Hamilton said.

“This is not something I ever expected to do, but Fiona encouraged me to do it.

"I’m excited for the move.”

Mr Shaw has already begun his dance training in Germany, but returned to Tweed in his holidays to dance in the Northern Rivers Youth Ballet Company’s productions.

“I’m studying at the Mannheim Ballet Academy, which has been amazing.

"It’s very professional and you really have to push yourself,” he said.

“There are a lot of differences training overseas.

“Everybody in my class speaks German, so there is a bit of a language barrier.

“But it’s a great opportunity and I’m looking forward to going back in August.”
