Champs tickle the ivories

GOLD Coast duo Alex Lee and Ben Perera were the standouts in yesterday's 10 years-and-under piano section of the Murwillumbah Festival of Performing Arts.

The 10-year-old pianists received first place in the piano duet (10 years and under).

Alex and Ben also received first and second place in the popular piano solo and second and third place in the piano solo, respectively.

The boys have the same piano teacher and practise together regularly at Alex's house.

Festival president Arthur Holmes said adjudicator David Urquhart-Jones, from Hobart, has commented on the very high standard of music at the festival.

“He's even been giving some nice constructive advice to young people after their performances,” Mr Holmes said.
