Changes to the Daily News

The Daily News is about to take a big step into the digital world as we change the way we deliver local news and information in line with modern needs.

After December 2 we will no longer be publishing a print edition of the Daily News Monday to Friday. Instead you will have access to a constantly-updated free digital news service at supported by regular email alerts.

We will continue to publish a bumper print edition on the weekend which will include a wrap of all the news of the week as well as extensive local sport, motoring, real estate, entertainment, business and shopping coverage.

The weekend edition will have a cover price of just 50 cents (plus agent delivery fee for home subscribers). For readers the changes mean you will have access to all the news you have always enjoyed for a fraction of the cost.

The new model will give advertisers access to a broad local print distribution twice a week and the website will provide constant access to an engaged local digital audience.

Readers of the Daily News have already embraced our internet and mobile sites in large numbers. From next month you can expect better local digital coverage as we restructure our newsroom in line with the growing demand for online news.

In coming weeks we will add video, social media and audio streams to the already unparalleled coverage of the Tweed border area you have to come to expect from the Daily News.

Under the new structure our Tweed office will continue to produce and distribute the weekly Tweed Border Mail free in the Tweed/Coolangatta/Murwillumbah area. The Gold Coast Mail and Robina Mail, which circulate north of the border, will cease to publish after December 22.

While there will undoubtedly be some sadness at the end of Monday to Friday print editions of the Daily News, we believe this new approach is better suited to current news consumption habits and ensures the area keeps its own masthead and quality local coverage.

The weekend edition of the Daily News will give you a comprehensive roundup of all the local news of the week, as well as exclusive stories relevant to where you live and your interests. It will not only be better but, at just 50 cents cover price, it will be great value. We will give you more details in coming days.

My team and I will be in contact with our clients in coming days to explain the changes and how you can take advantage of them.
