Charge over Facebook fight claim

TWEED-BYRON police have charged a 19-year-old man for using Facebook to promote a fight.

More than 5000 people confirmed they would attend a fight at Tweed City Shopping Centre through a event sent up on Facebook this month.

The fight was scheduled to break out on March 5.

Extra police were deployed to the shopping centre but no fight eventuated.

After a number of inquiries, a 19-year-old man was charged with using a carriage to make a hoax or threat.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court on 11 April 2011.
