Charity pink brekky a hit
BREAST cancer was battled with strong numbers at the Burleigh Heads Bowls Club on Monday.
About 100 people breakfasted during Pink Ribbon Day and raised money in memory of founding Burleigh In Pink committee member Assanta Oppedisano who died from cancer four years ago.
BIP chairperson Zeta Thomas said the organisation continued to grow and local business support had been "exceptional".
"And this is evident in the representation of business people here this morning," Ms Thomas said.
"Last year we raised the sum of $18,520, obviously we would like to exceed that this year.
"Our pink window campaign has become rather competitive this year with more of you making an extra special effort."
She thanked Academy of Design Robina director Rycki Symons and said his students had spent the year decorating bras for the morning's fashion parade and auction.
"Rycki held a Bras for the Cause workshop in April which was a lot of fun.
"He had pupils from the academy plus teachers and students from other schools as well as some of us committee members trying to show our creative side.
"We tried but didn't do too well," Ms Thomas laughed.
My Symons said his academy had been involved with BIP for two years to work with their signature thing: pink bras.
