Chase reaches speeds of 230kmh
TWEED Byron Highway Patrol continue to be plagued by high-speed pursuits with another two this week.
On Monday night police chased a black motorbike along the Pacific Highway just north of Ocean Shores but were forced to terminate the pursuit when the driver reached speeds of up to 230kmh.
Tweed crime manager Detective Acting Inspector Saul Wiseman said the registration was unknown and police were yet to discover the driver's identity yesterday afternoon.
On Tuesday police spotted a Subaru Forester near Sleepy Hollow.
The 26-year-old driver was wanted for break and enter offences in Banora Point but police were forced to give up the pursuit when the driver reached 190kmh.
He was arrested in Queensland later that day in connection with break and enter into residential premises, a stolen vehicle and traffic matters.
It was then revealed he was also wanted for other property offences in NSW.
He is currently in custody in Queensland.
These offences follow a spate of similar incidents including a short pursuit on Dry Dock Rd, Tweed Heads on May 3 involving a Queensland driver who was too affected by drugs to properly control the car.
He was also charged with weapons offences, drug offences and property offences.
Also adding to the list, two men were involved in a 50kmh police chase on April 24 from Byron Bay to Tweed Heads that only ended when police began to deploy road spikes.
The 18-year-old driver from Miami on the Gold Coast will appear in court again next week.
Less than 48 hours before that, John Wayne Tsiakas, 36, led police on a high speed chase near Chinderah with two passengers in his utility.
He kept driving even after road spikes had destroyed his tyres and is currently serving nine months in jail.
