Cheering crowd wanted by Tigers

THE Tweed Coast Tigers have steadily raised their level of aspirations and will continue the trend today when they take on Nimbin Demons at Pottsville Oval.

Even though the Tigers are leading the Summerland League competition after 12 rounds, they are still developing as a team.

It is a different story for the Demons who have struggled with numbers the whole season but they remain resilient to some extent.

Tweed Coast president Colin Richards said he had heard Nimbin was struggling on and off the field this season.

“They have improved in patches in the second half of the season but it has been a battle week in, week out for them,” he said.

On the two occasions the Tigers have played Nimbin they have been clear winners and over two matches they have collectively won by 399 points.

The Tigers have been supportive of the Demons and in round eight they even travelled out to Nimbin but also shared some of their players just so they could have a game.

Richards said he was happy with his team’s recent performances. And he continued to be impressed by Arnold Knight’s ability.

“It was the Arnold Knight show last week and I have never seen it in the league – he kicked 10 goals,” he said.

“For a guy who plays in the midfield it is unusual no one ever kicks that well ... he is sensational and it is worth rocking up to see him play or even train.”

The Tigers will approach the game with their usual line-up and maintain their usual level of intensity.

“When we play Nimbin we play guys in different positions so they can learn something ...we put young guys in pretty major positions and put them under pressure which is good for them,” Richards said.

The bounce is at 2pm and the Tigers are hoping for a big crowd to cheer them on.

Other games this round include Lismore Swans playing Byron Bay Magpies and the Coolangatta Blues face Ballina Bombers.

There is also a special dinner hosted by Coolangatta Football Club featuring AFL legends Ron Barassi, Shaun Rehn and Scott Reid this evening at Bangalow.

Tickets are $40, with some seats still available at the Tigers’ table of 10. To book phone 0420 933 189 or see Richards at today’s game for more information.
