Chicken 'dropped a bomb' by laying an 18cm egg
A CHICKEN has astounded its owners by laying a whopper 18cm round egg.
Henrietta, a brown shaver from Maungatapere in Northland, recently laid the egg, which is also more than 7cm long.
Owner Wayne Le Grice said Henrietta usually laid normal-sized eggs for a brown shaver.
"This is the first time she laid something that big. She hadn't laid for five or six days when she laid this monster.
"She really dropped a bomb," he said.
The "largest egg from a bird" is the work of a Swedish ostrich which laid a five-pounder (2.2kg) in 2008.
There is no category for the largest chicken egg.
