Choir ready to sing into spring

IT’S time to step into spring and to get you in the spirit ,the Gold Coast City Choir will host a Spring Festival of Music concert on Sunday.

The concert will help raise money for a chaplaincy program at Coolangatta State School and also help fund the choir’s rehearsals.

Choir member David Simpson said the concert would include items from Vivaldis Gloria, Sound of Music, The King and I, Phantom of the Opera and other songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber.

“There should be a nice variety of music, something for everyone to enjoy,” Mr Simpson said.

“We expect the church to be filled with about 150 people.

“We’re looking for anyone who would like to enjoy the singing.”

The choir recently found itself in financial trouble with increasing expenses forcing it to relocate its rehearsal room.

Twin Towns Uniting Church congregation member Judy Simpson said the choir had been struggling to find funding for some time, but was determined to still donate to the Coolangatta State School.

“The money raised will partly go to the choir and partly to the chaplaincy program at Coolangatta State School,” she said.

The choir is under the direction of conductor Ruth Gurner, who has also written some of the choral arrangements. The concert will begin at 2.30pm at the Twin Towns Uniting Church, Coolangatta.

Tickets are $10, including afternoon tea and are available for purchase by phoning 07 5536 1372.
