Chopper winched out man washed onto rocks at Cabarita
A MAN was winched to safety by Westpac Rescue Helicopter after he found himself stuck in a strange predicament at Cabarita.
The rescue service said the man was washed onto rocks at a gorge at Cabarita headland on Sunday morning, leaving the service baffled by his strange position.
"Obviously he was in a very difficult area to access, that's why we were called," fundraising manager Zeke Huish said.
"We're not sure exactly how he got there - it was a strange place to be."
The man was winched out of the gorge about 12.30pm.
He was treated for minor injuries and handed over to Ambulance NSW at the scene after an assessment by the rescue service's onboard doctor.
"We believe his injuries were largely superficial," Mr Huish said.
"Once we winched him out we took him a few kilometres to a nearby paddock.
"No winch rescue is easy, but this was fairly straightforward."
Photos of the incident show at least 30 spectators watching over the rescue's progress.
