Christine Milne launches Greens Richmond campaign

LEADER of the Australian Greens, Christine Milne, launched the campaign for Greens candidate for Richmond Dawn Walker last night at Murwillumbah.

"I'm honoured that Christine visited the Northern Rivers to meet our community and launch our campaign," Ms Walker said.

"It shows the high regard with which this region is held and I'm glad this will open up the conversation about what Richmond wants from this election.

"We have a great community and a stunning environment and people are saying they want the balance restored."

Ms Walker said the Greens wanted strategies that will protect everything special about the region, while offering a long-term future for residents, particularly young people, the elderly and those less well off.

"Our young people deserve jobs that will be there in the future," Ms Walker said.

"We need to support our existing businesses and attract sustainable industries that can work with the environment, farms and village lifestyle."

Ms Milne talked to residents at the Murwillumbah Community Centre about the Greens' plans to protect the environment, community and farms from the threat of coal seam gas.

She also spoke on farmers getting a fair price for their produce and the promotion of regional development around sustainable agriculture, tourism, education and renewable energy.
