Claims he would quit are "porky pies" says Jim Pearce

CLAIMS member for Mirani Jim Pearce will quit politics if Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk takes action against the CFMEU are "absolute rubbish" and "porky pies".

That's according to Mr Pearce himself, after Shadow Minister for Police, Fire, Emergency Services and Corrective Services Jarrod Bleijie made the claim during a press conference this morning.

Mr Bleijie used the conference to urge the premier to sever ties with the CFMEU following allegations of cover-ups and corruption within the union.

"It has come to our attention in the last 24 hours there are Labor members who have threatened Annastacia Palaszczuk with resigning from Parliament, causing by-elections, and one is Mr Jimmy Pearce," he said.

"We know he's affiliated with the CFMEU mining division.

"So it's quite clear the CFMEU are controlling the parliament.

"We knew they controlled the Labor party, but now they hold the balance of power in the Queensland Parliament and that's concerning."

But Mr Pearce said nothing about the statement was true.

"It's rubbish. I never said it," he said.

"He tells porky pies that guy. He knows I'm a life member of the CFMEU.

"I didn't say it so I can't even think about if I would or wouldn't (quit parliament if the premier takes action against the CFMEU)."
