Classical celebration for festival
FUTURE stars of Tweed classical music will take centre stage when the 25th annual Tyalgum Music Festival kicks off on Friday.
Featuring a host of young and locally trained artists, the festival shines the light on the art of classical music, with performers offering a range of concerts in multiple venues.
Officially opening with a gala night this Friday at the Tyalgum Community Hall with traditional chanting by the visiting Gyuto Tibetan Monks from 7pm, the festival runs until Sunday afternoon, with local musicians given the chance to shine through a centrepiece spot.
"There's a lot of events across the town for the whole weekend, including a new piece being written by a famous Australian composer which uses a lot of local aspects and lots of locals will be involved,” organiser and international pianist Anna McMichael said.
"To celebrate the 25th anniversary, we wanted to include people from the area and their stories more into the festival.
"It's good because it caters for everyone and it's nice for a festival to bring a whole village alive and include people and that's what we're trying to do.”
