Club staff show their winning form

THE Coolangatta Surf Life Saving Club staff have much to celebrate after being recognised for outstanding achievements.

The Queensland club industry’s annual IGT and Clubs Queensland awards for excellence at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre was held two weeks ago, with the result leaving the Coolangatta club with two accolades.

The awards named the Coolangatta club the Westpac Banking Corporation sponsored best Surf Life Saving Supporters Club and the Ainsworth Game Technology sponsored best club on the Gold Coast, giving the club two reasons to celebrate.

Clubs Queensland president Don Seccombe said the clubs deserved something to celebrate.

“The past 12 months have produced some interesting and certainly challenging times, with particular mention going to the devastation caused by the Queensland floods and Cyclone Yasi,” Mr Seccombe said.

“However, struggling or not, our community clubs are still out there every day, holding their nerve, and making a difference by providing affordable junior sport, entertainment, facilities, support for our returned service men and women, equipment, and activities for people to stay fit in body and mind.

“The annual IGT & Clubs Queensland Awards for Excellence recognises and celebrates the outstanding achievements of Queensland community clubs and provides all in community clubland with an opportunity to celebrate their involvement in and support of our Queensland communities. I congratulate all winners and thank them for representing our industry.”
