Coffee grower wins golden bean

CAROOL coffee grower Zeta Grealy was percolating with joy when she received a text message from a fellow roaster last Saturday night.

Perked up by the win, the local grower was pleasantly surprised to hear Zeta's Coffee had won two medals at the 2011 CSR Golden Bean Awards hosted in Caloundra.

The CSR Golden Bean awards bring together roasters and growers from all over Australia, with 1206 entries in this year's competition.

Receiving a bronze medal for Best Filter Origin and another for Best Single Origin for their Wirui Estate blend, the Grealys were further complimented by a Victorian roaster winning silver in the Best Australian Coffee (Milk) category, with a blend created from Zeta's green beans.

Mrs Grealy said it was lovely to have received the recognition as it reinforced the hard work they had put in.

"We've always aimed to produce a quality single origin coffee, and it's great to see it ranking with some of the world's best," Mrs Grealy said.

The Grealys started growing coffee in the Tweed hinterland in 1994, and have consistently won awards for their coffee over the last 11 years, including Champion of Show awards at the Sydney Royal Fine Food Competition.

Zeta's Coffee is also the only coffee to have been nominated in the Vogue Entertaining and Travel Produce Awards every year for the last three years.

The award-winning blend can be purchased from the Murwillumbah markets held every Wednesday.
