Coles' healthy donation to hospital

A MURWILLUMBAH supermarket yesterday handed over a cheque to provide items on the Murwillumbah Hospital wish list.

Coles Murwillumbah raised the money during the Banana Festival.

Store manager David Beer said the supermarket was able to raise more than $1700 for the hospital.

“Each year in the Banana Festival we hold in-store raffles (and) also morning teas (with) gold coin donations,” Mr Beer said.

“We still do this a couple of times throughout the year, but the Banana Festival is the main one.

“(We raised) $1750.55 for the hospital ... they use that money throughout the hospital.”

He said it was the supermarket’s way of supporting the community during the Banana Festival.

Murwillumbah Hospital Auxiliary president Val Foster said she was delighted to receive the donation.

“It all goes towards to whatever the hospital auxiliary raises,” she said.

“When the hospital gives us a wish list, what we can purchase, we do,” Ms Foster said.

“We are up to $37,000 this year.”

She said all the donations help the hospital buy important things.

“We’ve purchased super heavy wheel chairs. We have bought a fridge for the injections and the medical things that they have,” she said.
