Community digs deep for Drummond family

COMMUNITY spirit can be an amazing thing.

Kirra Sports Club is holding a fundraiser on Sunday July 28 to help pay for the funeral of Robby Drummond, known by many members of the club.

Mr Drummond died on July 21, soon after the death of his father. Understandably, the Drummond family has been hit hard by the two losses, so Kirra Sports Club decided to dig deep to help its mate's family.

"It's just a tragedy," staff member Di Anderson said.

"Robby was a really nice guy and we want to send him off in a nice way.

"He's been a member for years. I started 13 years ago and he's been coming here for about 10 of those years. The people that knew Robby have just really dug deep."

Donations have poured in from across the Tweed and Gold Coast community for a raffle, to be held on the Sunday.

The raffle will be drawn at 4pm and tickets are $10 each or three tickets for $20.

First prize is a trip to Hamilton Island for two people, flights and three days accommodation (donated by Wild Oats).

Second Prize is two nights accommodation in Broadbeach (donated by Greg Beer).

Third Prize is a $ 50 voucher to Ambiente Café in Kirra (donated by Claudia & Gary O'brien ).

Other prizes include a $100 Neutrimetics voucher and $100 Moo Moo restaurant voucher (donated by Coira Berry), $100 Coles Myer voucher (donated by PFD), $100 (donated by Rob Howard) and another $100 (donated by 'Locky').

Lenny, Simon, Andrew & Nick from Britts Meats also donated the snags for the sausage sizzle and Tweed Growers provided the onions.

Members of the club's trivia night have even donated towards the cause, despite not knowing Mr Drummond personally.

It is expected the fundraiser will be well attended, with raffle tickets selling quickly.

Additional funds from the raffle will go towards schooling costs of Mr Drummond's son Isaac.

Ring Kirra Sports Club on 07 5536 7422 for more information, to purchase tickets over the phone or to donate to the cause.
