Confidential meeting about sacking of Tweed GM

TWEED residents will be kept in the dark regarding the council's sacking of its general manager David Keenan.

Mayor Barry Longland said a confidential meeting will be held early next week, but details would not be released to the press or the public.

He said the private meeting will go more in-depth into the reasons for terminating Mr Keenan's contract.

The confidential meeting of councillors was advised by the Division of Local Government.

Following an investigation into the mayor Barry Longland's recommendation to terminate the contract, the division recommended in its report that he meet with his fellow councillors in private to explain his "reasons for making that recommendation."

Cr Longland said he would answer councillors' questions, but that it would not go public.
