Coast athletes strike Gold

QUEENSLAND surf lifesaving clubs dominated the Coolangatta Gold on Sunday.

Northcliffe's Caine Eckstein proved he was the best the gruelling event has seen by winning his fourth title in a time of 4h11m41s. Corey Hill (Northcliffe) 4h27m12s finished second, followed by Josh Minogue (Mooloolaba) 4h28m35s.

Darren Mercer finished fourth in 4h35m06s, despite missing the deep-water start by 10 minutes.

In the women's event, Alicia Marriott equalled Hayley Bateup's record of three wins when she successfully defended her title, triumphing ahead of Courtney Hancock and Liz Pluimers.
