Win-win situation for the Blues
COOLANGATTA-Tweed Heads Blues put on a day to remember for players and spectators alike at Len Peak Oval yesterday.
It certainly was a win-win situation for the Blues who organised a highly successful Queensland Cancer Council fundraising day as well as hosting Springwood in an Australian Football League Queensland clash.
The Blues played with great touch to post a runaway victory – 28.18 (186) to 9.6 (60).
But that slick performance was matched inside the Kirra Sports Club overlooking the action on the field where the club hosted a Ladies Lunch which was attended by a packed house of 160 women of all ages who probably enjoyed the footy but definitely enjoyed the fine fare, wines and entertainment.
Blues coach Neil Mackay was equally delighted by the successes inside the club and out on Len Peak.
“To see what the boys did on the field and then come into the club and learn everyone had a great time and we had raised over $5000 was just the icing on the cake,” Mackay.
Best for the Blues on the field were Ali Pinda (the best-on-ground winner), Mark Greeny, Jake Byrush and Tom Thurwood.
“Dougie Hawkins also played another fine match and it was pleasing to see the pressure taken off him to perform by those around him,” Mackay said.
