Cooly Idol makes it to top 10

AUSTRALIAN Idol hopeful and Coolangatta's own Stan Walker is a step closer to achieving his dream.

The 18-year-old retail shop worker is in the top 10 singers of the popular Channel 10 reality show after avoiding elimination for another week.

On local radio yesterday morning, the latest elimination, Miami dad Casey Barnes, 30, encouraged listeners to get behind Stan.

On Sunday's show, Stan sang Silverchair's Straight Lines.

Guest judge Brian McFadden approved of the performance, but previously said he was worried about Stan singing another rock song.

Stan passed his Brisbane audition earlier this year where he performed John Lennon's Ordinary People to judges Kyle Sandilands, Marcia Hines and Ian “Dicko” Dickson.

The dedicated Christian is well known on the Tweed for his church choir singing.

This Sunday's performance will be to an '80s theme with guest mentor and judge Ross Wilson, starting at 7.30pm.
