Tweed council wants dam clips cut from website
TWEED Shire Council has called on YouTube to withdraw its videos of thrill seeker who climbed barbed wire fences to access the Clarrie Hall spillway and boogie board in early March.
Despite strong warnings from the Tweed Shire Council and Tweed Police, YouTube clips of thrill seekers risking their lives at Clarrie Hall Dam emerged.
The Daily News is leading the way, having already taken the offending video off its website following requests from the council.
The clips show a number of teens climbing over and around barbed wire fences, ignoring clear warning signs, to take a boogie board ride on the flooding spillway.
There is also footage of a young man back flipping into the dam from a high wall.
The 3.13-minute clip names seven people participating in the Dam Rats video which was uploaded on March 12.
The Daily News broke the story about this group of teens trespassing to take a ride down the spillway.
Council has asked YouTube and those who posted the videos on YouTube to remove them from the site "If they do not within a reasonable timeframe, the council will be pursuing legal avenues," a spokesperson for the council said.
The Daily News removed the video for the good of the community and to prevent the encouragement or promotion of further illegal activity in line with Council's attempts to curb the behaviour and the promotion of the behaviour.
