Councillor seeks AVO against Tweed deputy mayor

TWEED Shire councillor Carolyn Byrne has lodged an application for an Apprehended Violence Order (AVO) against the deputy mayor Gary Bagnall.

It comes after a spat between the pair following the annual mayoral vote last week, as reported by the Tweed Daily News.

If successful, the AVO will order Cr Bagnall not to commit violence, intimidation or harassment against Cr Byrne.

Both councillors will be required to front Tweed Local court on October 6.

Cr Byrne, Cr Bagnall and the council have been contacted for comment.

The council has been asked how this AVO, if it's granted, will affect local governance, given that both councillors must attend fortnightly council meetings together.
