Council's new cop shop approach

THE Tweed Shire Council will approach the NSW government to find a resolution on the Kingscliff Police Station.

At the council meeting on Tuesday a resolution was passes 3-3 with a casting vote from Mayor Barry Longland to write to the Minister of Emergency Services requesting council involvement in selecting a suitable site.

The decision was made in response to a report to council on the outcome of a NSW Land and Environment decision that ruled the initial approval for the police station on Marine Pde, Kingscliff was invalid.

Councillor Kevin Skinner spoke on the resolution despite previously leaving the chamber because the court case was in progress and his involvement in opposition to the station.

"That case has finished so I am back in the ball park. I can now speak on the station," Cr Skinner said.

"We are telling them here we are how can we help you and how can we go forward on this.

"The offer should be made."

Cr Skinner said Chinderah residents were concerned with the Marine Pde location with emergency vehicles rushing through the village's street.
