Council’s support of aquaSplash stands

AN attempt to overturn Tweed Shire Council’s in-principle support for a controversial inflatable fun park in Tweed Heads’ Jack Evans Boat Harbour has failed.

In an extraordinary meeting on Monday night, a rescission motion lodged against the proposal by acting mayor Gary Bagnall was voted down 3–2.

Conservative councillors Warren Polglase, Carolyn Byrne and Phil Youngblutt maintained their support for the project, which has attracted both strong backing and opposition from local residents.

The vote was always likely to fail as while Mayor Katie Milne was one of three signatures on the rescission motion lodged, she is not due back from sick leave until May 31 so therefore could not participate in the vote.
