Country King visits Mur’bah

BILL Chambers may be most commonly known as the father of country stay Kasey Chambers.

Next month, he’ll take to the stage alongside his daughter at the inaugural Murwillumbah Country Roots Festival.

Chambers said he’d been to Murwillumbah before, but was looking forward to performing there for the first time.

“It’s a great town,” he said.

“It’s a beautiful little town and it’s going to be a really great festival.

“A lot of my friends are performing there.”

While he performs in his daughter’s band, he’ll be doubling up at the festival with his own shows as well.

Chambers recently returned from the US, where he toured. with Kasey.

“We went to most of the major cities,” he said.

“It was the best received (tour) ever for some reason.

“People just came out of the woodwork and really enjoyed the shows.”

Chambers said he was keen to check out the other talent on offer at the festival.

“There’s a big lineup and a lot of artists,” he said.

While other music festivals around the country have been facing troubled times in recent years, Chambers said he had high hopes for this one.

“I think (organiser) Lou (Bradley) is the sort of person who just believes in this,” Chambers said.

“I’m confident it’s going to go well.”

Murwillumbah Country Roots Festival will take place at Murwillumbah Showgrounds from October 2-5.

Bill Chambers will take to the stage at 7.30pm Sunday, October 4. He’ll perform with Kasey Chambers at 9.30pm the same night.
