Bargara man refused bail over alleged weekend coward punch

A BARGARA man remains behind bars after an alleged assault at a party in Orange at the weekend.

About 11.55pm on Saturday, a 19-year-old man was at a house party on Honeyman Drive when he was asked to leave the premises.

He was followed outside the home by a man who allegedly struck him once to the side of the head.

As a result of the assault the 19-year-old man was knocked unconscious and fell to the ground where he struck his head on the road.

Police and NSW Ambulance Paramedics were called to the scene and the injured man was taken to Orange Base Hospital with serious head injuries.

He was later airlifted to Westmead Hospital where he underwent surgery and remains in a critical but stable condition.

Police from Canobolas Local Area Command conducted investigations into the assault and about 4pm yesterday attended a house in Cumnock where they arrested the 20-year-old Bargara man.

The man appeared in court today, where he was denied bail over the alleged crime.

He was taken to Orange Police Station and charged with recklessly inflict grievous bodily harm and refused bail to appear in Orange Local Court today.
