Courtney's giant leap to London

COURTNEY Macmillan is living the dream.

The 15-year-old won Australia's largest scholarship, the McDonald's Ballet Scholarship, at the Sydney Opera House over the weekend.

The $18,000 scholarship comprises $3000 cash and a three-week scholarship at London's Royal Academy of Dance.

Courtney was personally invited to attend the Royal Academy of Dance by its director Gailene Stock during the Alana Haines Australasian Ballet Competition in Auckland at Easter.

Her prize from that competition was a four-week scholarship and the opportunity to continue into the first year of the upper school at the Royal Academy.

But tuition alone costs in the vicinity of $50,000 per year.

Her latest victory at the weekend took Courtney to just under the half-way mark to keep her at the school for a year.

The ballerina, who trains at the Professional Ballet Coaching Academy Australia based at Industry Dance at Tweed Heads South, said she was ecstatic.

“I'm so happy. Winning this competition means that I can definitely go to London,” she said.
