11.15AM: The Pacific Hwy is now open in both directions at Hoys Rd and all diversions have been lifted.

Traffic is very heavy in the area but should start to slowly ease now all lanes are open. 

Motorists are advised to allow additional travel time.

10.30AM: A MAN aged in his 40s died after his station wagon was involved in a head-on crash with a truck on the Pacific Hwy near Moonee Beach this morning. 

Police said the Subaru Forester, the man was driving, and a tip truck collided near Cunningham's Creek around 8.10am.

The truck driver, a man aged in his early 40s, has been taken to hospital suffering from shock.

Coffs/Clarence police remain at the scene investigating the crash and have appealed for anyone who witnessed the accident to come forward.

The highway is currently closed in both directions and diversions are in place.

Motorists should expect lengthy delays.

At 10.15am the NSW Transport Management Centre reported north bound traffic is queued for 5km and there are queues of up to 8km south of the scene.

9.00AM: MOTORISTS heading north are advised to head west upon reaching Coffs Harbour via Coramba Rd and take the Orara Way to Nana Glen.

At Nana Glen traffic can then head east along Bucca Rd to the Pacific Hwy to avoid the accident scene.

Southbound traffic is being diverted via Bucca Rd.  

At this stage the highway may not reopen until after 11am.

EARLIER: A FATAL crash involving a tip truck and a car has blocked both lanes of the Pacific Hway near Moonee Beach.

Ambulance Media has confirmed a male occupant of a station wagon is deceased.

The NSW Transport Management Centre said the crash happened near the Hoys Rd intersection at Cunningham's Creek just after 8am.

Investigating police have conveyed the truck driver to hospital for mandatory blood tests.

A heavy vehicle inspection will be carried out this morning.

Motorists are warned there are considerable delays between Coffs Harbour and Woolgoolga.

Police say south-bound traffic is being diverted via Bucca Rd.

Motorists headed north to Grafton are being turned around at the scene and advised to return to Coffs Harbour and travel north on Coramba Rd.

A heavy vehicle tow is expected to start a salvage effort around 9am.   

Police say the highway should be cleared within the hour.
